I learnt to knit basic stitches when I was a kid. My beautiful auntie Sliyou taught me.
I was about 8 when I used to play with so many barbies. My auntie thought I could have more fun if I had more clothes and ornaments for my dolls. So, she decided to make lots of beautiful and multicoloured tiny teeny garments for my barbies, such as, cardigans, shawls, gloves, scarves, carpets, hats, collars, slippers, and much more. I wish I had pictures of them. Unfortunately, I gave them all away many years ago.

My grandma (may god have mercy on her and may she R.I.P) used to knit and crochet, too. She loved making winter home-slippers. She used to make so many of them -soft and colourful- while having tea. I remember she used to give some away, offer some as gifts to relatives and sell other slippers at a symbolic price.

It was my dream back then was to do be able to do the same as my auntie and gran when I grow up.
I always liked DYI. and I ,certainly, do love giving things away, too.

As I grew up, my interest shifted from knitting and crocheting to other activities. Drawing had become my favourite hobby. Reading Manga and watching Anime took all my free time, too.

What triggered my passion for crochet again, was my best friend Phartymah. while commuting on the underground, she used to take out her maroon-ish little skein of yarn, and add more stitches to her phone pouch to be. though I had been taught by my aunt, I did forget how to hold a crochet hook. So, my BFF showed me how to do it again, but I wasn't inspired enough to take it further and make useful things. Studies, work, hanging out with friends were more important to me back then.

Until the day I moved out..
Numidya happy to get a bunch of hooks, she says go to

Now that I'm in a place where I do not have many friends to hang out with, I bumped into the hook again. this time it was while surfing the net and loitering around Youtube. I found many videos teaching beginners to crochet, step by step, and was thrilled and excited to see all the things people were making, exhibiting, and selling. I got hooked on watching videos that taught basic stitched, (see Crochet Geek group: google+, Facebook and Youtube. It's been my best teacher so far) but I had no crochet hook, and no yarn. I didn't even know where to get yarn and hooks from. I spoke to mum who is back home about it all and -bless her sweet heart- she didn't miss the first opportunity to send me 4 crochet hooks of different sizes, and loads of yarn skeins. So, my journey of practising has started since, and I'm still a student with a lot of improvement to make - god willing.

I'm also grateful to two other lovely ladies who helped me get some yarn later on, when it was impossible for me to get any. thank you Peggy and Anna. <3

Anna has been a great inspiration to me. She comes up with the greatest ideas and praises my shabby freshie's work all the time. she gives me reasons to make things. Of course, I enjoy practising and learning more about crochet, but since I love offering things to friends and family, crocheting had become more than just rolling the yarn over the hook and pulling though the loop. It means much more to me now. It means 'taking after my gran and walking on her footsteps', DYIing, and having the pleasure to offer.
